Sanford's ArtEdventures: Color Theory vs. Dr. Gray and his Dechromatizer

Carmine with color wheel
"A color wheel is just a circular chart that helps artists remember how to mix and think about color. This looks like a pretty simple color wheel. It only has the primary and secondary colors--no tertiary colors!

"The primary colors are red, blue and yellow. Primary colors can't be made from other colors.

"The secondary colors are made by mixing two primary colors. Red and blue make purple, red and yellow make orange and blue and yellow make green.

Red and blue make purple
Red + blue=purple
Red and yellow make orange
Red+yellow=orange
Blue and yellow make green
blue+yellow=green

Color wheel"Tertiary colors, also known as intermediate colors, are made by mixing a primary color and a secondary color. That's how you get colors like yellow-green and blue-violet.

"This color wheel is almost complete. Do you see the pattern? Each secondary color sits between the two primary colors that it is made from! Orange is between red and yellow.

"So where do green and purple go? Look at the patterns, then go open the control panel!"
